Ocular Coherence Tomographer, 3D OCT

OCT is a new imaging technique that provides high resolution and cross-sectional images of the eye. An OCT scan allows microstructures of the eye to be imaged and shows different colour-coded layers of the retina. It is particularly useful in the diagnosis and management of eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, macular hole and glaucoma.

OCT uses high definition scanning and 3D imaging to be able to penetrate the soft tissues of the eye, in effect to peel back the layers and see what’s happening within the tissue. The results can be used to identify many eye diseases at an incredible early stage and to monitor for change over time with great sensitivity. Never before has it been so easy to pinpoint the exact location of concern!

The scan takes a matter of minutes, and is painless. It uses light waves, similar to ultrasound to capture the different layers in the eye.

Covid-19

We are pleased to announce that we will be reopening our practice, however to keep you and our staff from the COVID-19 we have put the following measures in place:

APPOINTMENTS: To observe social distancing we will be controlling the number of people in the practice at any one time therefore we kindly ask all patients to call ahead (0161 973 3674) to arrange appointments for spectacle adjustments, collection of glasses or the choosing of new frames.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Your safety and that of our staff is our number one priority and we have strict procedures in place for that reason. Staff will be wearing face masks for any direct contact with patients and full PPE in our consulting rooms.

HYGIENE: You will be asked to sanitise when you enter the practice and we request you wear a face covering. All frames that are tried on are disinfected, in addition surfaces, including ophthalmic equipment, that are touched are cleaned between us seeing patients in any part of the building. We are taking all these measures in line with guidance to ensure your safety and that of our staff.

EXAMINATIONS WITH RETINAL IMAGING: With social distancing in mind it is difficult to rely on basic eye examination techniques such as ophthalmoscopy. As such we strongly recommend that all NHS eligible patients upgrade to include retinal imaging which is not covered by the NHS Sight Test. The fee for imaging being £12.

OUR APPRECIATION: It's been a tough time for all of us however we were delighted in serving the urgent and essential needs of our patients during the lockdown. We thank everyone who has supported us so far and look forward to serving our patients and the wider community for a long time to come.
