About Us

Our family-owned practice was first established by David Arnold F.B.C.O in 1966 and has been providing the best possible vision care for our patients here in Ashton on Mersey, Sale. Our practice is housed in stylish, spacious premises, conveniently located a mile from Sale town centre with plenty of free public parking. We aim to ensure that during your visit you are perfectly at ease.

Following Mr Arnold’s retirement in March 2001, the practice was handed on to Mr Kishor Patel BSc (Hons) MCOptom. Mr Patel qualified as an optometrist in 1994 from The City University, London. As well his duties at David Arnold Opticians, he currently attends as Specialist Optometrist at The Royal Bolton Hospital working in the contact lens clinics. He has held his appointment there since April 1999 and also has experience working in children’s, general, glaucoma and diabetic clinics.

Mr Patel and his team of friendly and knowledgeable staff are very proud to receive a high level of patient loyalty and believe that this reflects the longstanding reputation of excellent eye care that the practice has accumulated over so many years. Our patients have come to expect high standards and professionalism and just as Mr Arnold did, Mr Patel has kept abreast with the latest developments in optometry and has continued to implement new services for our patients whilst maintaining the traditions of professional, personal and un- rushed eye examinations. The most up to date equipment and techniques are used to examine your eyes and safeguard your sight for the future.

Mr Patel and his fellow optometrists have experience in examining children of all ages special visual investigations relating to dyslexia migraine and eye muscle problems. We see patients of all ages, from one week after birth to over 100 years old.

We offer an extensive range of lenses and frames at competitive prices. Using the latest technology we can provide the thinnest, lightest spectacle lenses available as well as the most aesthetic and fashionable range of frames. And for your reassurance, all measurements and dispensing of spectacles are carried out and supervised by an optometrist.

We are pleased to announce that we will be reopening our practice, however to keep you and our staff from the COVID-19 we have put the following measures in place:

APPOINTMENTS: To observe social distancing we will be controlling the number of people in the practice at any one time therefore we kindly ask all patients to call ahead (0161 973 3674) to arrange appointments for spectacle adjustments, collection of glasses or the choosing of new frames.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Your safety and that of our staff is our number one priority and we have strict procedures in place for that reason. Staff will be wearing face masks for any direct contact with patients and full PPE in our consulting rooms.

HYGIENE: You will be asked to sanitise when you enter the practice and we request you wear a face covering. All frames that are tried on are disinfected, in addition surfaces, including ophthalmic equipment, that are touched are cleaned between us seeing patients in any part of the building. We are taking all these measures in line with guidance to ensure your safety and that of our staff.

EXAMINATIONS WITH RETINAL IMAGING: With social distancing in mind it is difficult to rely on basic eye examination techniques such as ophthalmoscopy. As such we strongly recommend that all NHS eligible patients upgrade to include retinal imaging which is not covered by the NHS Sight Test. The fee for imaging being £12.

OUR APPRECIATION: It's been a tough time for all of us however we were delighted in serving the urgent and essential needs of our patients during the lockdown. We thank everyone who has supported us so far and look forward to serving our patients and the wider community for a long time to come.
